An unpleasant character association does not affect my opinion, but it is of no help. Other than not being pretty, it's really bland. Jane is boring but at least it's pretty. Other names with the same vibe that I like more are Jill, Betty, Joanne, Jean, Anne, Annie, Maggie or Tilda.

I think it's awful! Jane and Janet are far better.

It's nice as a nickname for one of my favorite names, Janet. I don't know if it could be popular now, but it's short and simple in English!

Where I live, it would be assumed to be Jan (m), pronounced YUN.
