Meaning & History

Derived from Greek ἀβάρβαρος (abarbaros), ἀβόρβορος (aborboros) meaning "without filth", itself from α (a), a negative prefix, and βόρβορος (borboros) meaning "mud, mire, filth". This was the name of two naiads (nymphs) in Greek mythology.
