Etymology uncertain. Possibly derives from the Semitic element pdr ("to scatter/spread"). Another possible origin is the element bqr ("lightning"). A Hurrian origin for her name has also been speculated, specifically from the element pedari ("bull"). Name borne by a Ugaritic goddess described as a daughter of Baal. It's theorised that she was a tutelary deity for the kingdom of Ugarit.
