Meaning & History

Means "eagle" in Spanish (see Aquila), taken from the titles of the Virgin Mary, La Virgen del Águila and Nuestra Señora del Águila, meaning "The Virgin of the Eagle" and "Our Lady of the Eagle" respectively.
She is the patroness of Alcalá de Guadaíra in the Andalusian province of Sevilla, hence the name's very high concentation there.
